Portable Cell phone interface unit, CPIU Model, shown with Rugged, water tight Plastic Enclosure.
System Description Shown Below

Description of our CPIU-D series (Digital Cell Phone interface unit):

The CPIU, "Cell Phone Interface Unit", is one of our most versatile units. The CPIU is comprised of a properly configured digital Cell phone or transceiver, ML Designs Sens-Alert control module, a power supply, and selected sensor(s). Transmission range is only limited by the range of your telephone or cell phone system. Choosing from a number of sensor options, the system functions to alert the operator that a certain condition exists in a remote location. Upon sensing the appropriate "trip condition" the CPIU activates an auto-dialing sequence where it alternately dials one of two pre-programmed phone numbers. These numbers are entered by the user prior to operation. The unit continues to call out at specified intervals until someone acknowledges the call by pressing a key on the recieving phone. The unit plays a pre-recorded message that indicates what has tripped the unit as well as which unit is making the call (in the case of multiple units). The message and trip points for the unit are all user selected either at the unit or via the telephone, by the user prior to setting the unit in a remote location. The unit has the ability to "read out" any active sensor value over the phone when you call it up from a remote location! The user also has the ability to configure the unit so that they can call up the unit in the field and switch a relay output. This allows for "remote switching" of some system adjacent to the unit. In the CDMA version, the cell phone can be removed in the "off Season" and used as a normal cell phone! The GSM version uses an internal transceiver that is not removable.

A common use for this system is for Alfalfa baling operations. In this application the CPIU utilizes the Dual-Channel (two sensor dew/hay sensor) capability, developed for monitoring hay conditions. Instead of sleeping in their truck in the middle of their field all night, they let the CPIU system do all the work. In this arrangement the operator sets the unit in a remote field adjacent to the windrow (where dew onset is to be determined). They power up the device and verify the appropriate settings via the display on the front of the control panel. Next they set out their sensors for monitoring dew on the top and bottom of the wind row then they leave the device in the field and return to their shop or house and wait for a phone call alerting them that the device has reacted to dew onset! They can also call the unit up during the night and ask it to "read out" the current sensor values at any time. As the unit trips as a result of a sensor reaching the selected trip point, the operator then punchs a simple sequence of keys on their telephone to terminate the "callout sequence" at the CPIU unit. Next, they return to the unit, terminate its power and begin working.

*Note that this system can be utilized for other sensors as well. See below, or Contact ML Designs for your special requirements.*

The CPIU is a fully self contained package including a user supplied cell phone, a rechargeable battery and compatible charger, our Sens-Alert control unit, a hand carryable enclosure for easy transportation to remote site, and an instruction manual. Contact ML Designs to select the type of sensor(s) options you want to include, Additional custom features and components can be added - See below and call ML Designs to discuss possibilities and pricing.

For connection to the common land line phone system, the 12VDC supply could be replaced with a small transformer unit for connection to 110VAC. This arrangement would include only the CPIU control module (no batttery, charger, enclosure or cell phone system, there fore reducing the overall cost (but also reducing the remote placement capability offered by the complete system!)
